Clearwater in the Community:

We believe everyone should have a share of the world’s precious resources. One of the most important is water. This is why we have partnered with CAFOD in sponsoring a water and sanitation project in Sri Lanka.

Clearwater Advisors is helping CAFOD to improve water access to communities in Sri Lanka. CAFOD is working with a local partner, Caritas Sri Lanka, to improve the access to potable water for families across five districts and will provide training specifically for women to manage the water resources. This will be done through the installation of new wells and large, underground, water harvesting tanks as well as the repair of water distribution systems (pipes and pumps). Water sources will be built near to the communities so that households, and women in particular, can avoid spending hours collecting water. This building and repair work will run along side hygiene and sanitation training. Working through existing community groups, women will be empowered to take part in the project and the management of the water systems. These pictures show a similar CAFOD project, already near completion, in an area nearby. CAFOD worked with another local partner, Caritas Batticaloa.
